    Fixed Restrictor

Wondered why subcooling was out of whack. Looked inside this machine and found a factory installed metering device.

Cut it out and installed a two core shell for the fix. Anyone want to take a stab at what unit this is?

Tough to tell where it's located at, but looks like a muffler to me.

The picture is a liquid line drier. It is in an Addison 100% outside air unit.

I'm wondering how old this unit is? How long did it take for the factory installed drier to clog? Was there any failure in the unit that led to it?

Very good questions! This unit is about 6-7 years old. It has had several refrigerant circuit related repairs through its life, and is obvious no one replaced the drier during any of them, as it was still the factory installed one.... Pure sacrilege!

You know how factory likes to skimp on their drier sizes. We went from their 75 ci to a 96 ci core type, and she's running like a Singer sewing machine now.
