I have a 3 bedroom condo and I need a new compressor for my A/C. Is a 3HP compressor too big?

3 HP as in horsepower? Air compressors are measured in HP. Air conditioner compressors are measured in tons or Btu

Refrigerant compressors are measured in horsepower or kilowatts in other countries.

For larger temp differences BTUs per HP goes down so a 1HP compressor from a window shaker moves more BTUs than a 1 HP on a sub zero freezer.
