superheat
Good Morning
When taking superheat on a doubledoor self contained refrigerator, its impossible to get to the evap. outlet without taking the cover down and some have the evap. fans mounted right on them. Lately I find myself doubting my readings at the compressor after working on a walk in. Do you think I'm getting a correct reading from the compressor?
Thanks

Here's what I learned a long time ago. If I can't do it, there's someone else who will. The people that "do" are the ones working. The people that don't are sitting at home.
Have the customer empty the box for you. Tell them to clean the rotten food and mold out of it while they're at it. Get your readings. I assume you are being paid by the hour? If it takes an extra hour to make sure the box is working properly, that money is going in your pocket. If you don't check it and it results in a callback, that money is coming out of your pocket whether yoor boss charges you for the call back or doesn't send you on the next call because you're not thourough enough. If it's the lunch rush, tell them you'll be back in the morning make sure it's empty.
I check evap SH on an install, a txv replacement, a pump replacement, or if I am completely dumbfounded. I do not do it during a maintenance. No need unless there are obvious signs. Then it becomes chargeable. It's a win win for me.Local 597 Service Fitter

Oh Al,
It sounds like your saying getting a reading from the suction side of the compressor on a 2 door self contained refer. (or equivalent) is not good enough for superheat.

Peg,Not saying it isn't good enough. Depends on what you're looking for.
