I need to replace a couple of busted vents on one of my old-style baseboard registers... the big, chunky kind that no-one makes anymore from the 1950s. The vent/grille itself screws onto the front of the register housing and measures about 13x10 with a simple built-in baffle that's operated from the lever on the front.

Does anyone know of a compeny that still makes these, or any sort of salvage company that might have some?

I can't afford to rip all the old registers out for new ones, especially because it would mean patching all the walls and floors, and replacing the vent boots. It would be a big job.

    Any leads appreciated.

Thanks... that airrite link certainly illustrates what I have, and mine are indeed left over from an old gravity furnace heating system. However, mine are more rounded at the top and sides, and seem to stick out from the baseboard a little more. In short, more old fashioned!

A pic of what mine look like is here...

Anyway, I'll give airrite them a call to get precise dimensions. If anyone knows where I might be able to find some old salvaged ones, however, that would still be preferable.

I thought all major cities had a recycle/reuse center for building products. I thought all computers on the net had a search engine for oddball seaches. Those registers would be taken out of most houses prior to demolition? I would think so. Ebay?

Yes, I did a search on Google... found a bunch of reclamation places in my area... none evidently have any of these. I also did an ebay search. Nada. Hence I thought I might find some additional suggestions here.

I'm also hitting up a number of HVAC installation companies in the area to see if they are pulling any old ones out. So far nothing.

If you still have the old register cut the louvers out & mount a new register to the old face.If you take your time they look decent.
Take your time & do it right!
