Cracked heat exchangers
I don't know if this question has been asked.
Does anybody have any secrets or tricks to finding cracks or go to spots for different brands.
I know the carrier heat exchangers crack in the secondary or the rivet/ weld Demple

Last one I found, I had a real lazy burner and dark condensate, older janitrol. Told the homeowner the secondary was bad. When I pulled the the furnace out the damn secondary fell right out lol.

A digital manometer to the pressure switch on gas furnaces.Turn the fan on on and if you get a reading...you have a cracked exchanger.

There are classes/seminars on heat exchanger inspections. IMO they are worth many times the price of admission.

A good inspection camera will help as well.
My first journeyman told me a trick that I still use in tough cases. Pour water over the heat exchanger, if you can see inside the HX, the water will soak through.

I guess it's a great question but I almost feel like you should be charged for the first answer. Lol. Although I will say rollout switches don't lie unless they are defective. Don't just hit the reset and leave as you will be back very soon to disassemble the unit in some cases.
