Testo 550 Clamp Probe and Grounding

I just bought a second Testo 550 kit with 2 temperature clamps. The new clamps didn't have the green O ring at the plug end. When I called the distributor I was told that the green ring was only temporary and all the new clamps have black rings.

    Has anybody else heard this?

The green o-rings probes are the lastest version. Please email me at john@testo.com to and I'll help you with the exchange.

Does the wire with two alligator clips attached come with the "latest version" of the 550?

Are you referring to roach clips?

Are you the John that wrote an article for RSES Journal on temp probes?

It was very informative on the differences between thermocouples and thermistors.

There is no need to use the grounding clips if you have the green o-ring clamp temperature probes.

Thanks John I get this but the reason I asked was I thought I read somewhere the latest units not only have the grounded temperature clamps with the green o-rings but the electronics were improved also. There are some deals out there and clamps were one indication for us to tell if it was an old version or not. Just wanted to know if we saw the ground wire in to box if it is the latest version or not.

If it has the ground wire, you could expect that it was made before October of 2010.
