The Hunger Games...a vision?

Just an FYI for those not familiar with The Hunger Games, it is the first part of a Trilogy.

I agree with most of your opinion, but not the last statement. How are we at the middle of the road path? Seems to me the secular crowd is dominating now, which is usually tagged as the liberals (a false name for such a group, but I don't make the rules).

I think it's a shame that such limited defining terms are used for any of us. A fascist is defiined as;

Definition of FASCISM

1: often capitalized: a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition

2: a tendency toward or actual exercise of strong autocratic or dictatorial control .

So, fascism is not a liberal or conservative ideology, it is an ideology of someone who strives for autocratic control regardless of their ideology.

Adolf Hitler has been innacurately depicted as a conservative because he opposed the liberal ideology of Communism. In fact though, Hitler's ideology was nearly identical to Communism other than his beliefs that only people of certain ethnic background were worthy of being part of his world. Basically, Hitler needed to invent a bad guy to blame all of the woes of Germany on. That bad guy for Hitler was Jews. Obama's regime is attempting to make the old White guys the bad guys of the U.S. This may turn out to be more difficult than Obama and his kind believe because he only has a relatively few amount of old White guys who are standing with him. If the intellect and ethical level of Obama's White guys are such as Joe Biden demonstrates, then Obama is going to find fewer old White guys standing with him, no matter how liberal minded they are.

I don't really want a conservative or a liberal as president or in any government positions. Our political leaders should be able to lean which ever way is best for the American people overall depending on the current circumstances. I want a president who works for "ALL" Americans and does not constantly divide us into small groups that can be either defeated or controlled.

I am aware of this, and am looking forward to the rest of the story no matter which way it leans. I was just commenting on my personal viewpoint of the society created in this first movie. I really don't have any idea what the writer's intent is, or if the writer had any intentions for depicting any particular political leaning.

In reading an interview with Suzanne Collings, she was flipping back and forth between war coverage and a reality show.

The line between the two blurred and the Hunger Games was born.

I'm not sure what her political purpose in this story is, if there is, indeed one.

The Capitol is bad, but there is another government that you will be introduced to that is diametrically opposite and just as bad, IMO.

I suggest reading the books if you have the time, rather than watching the movies. There's a lot of context and subtlety that is lost.

I will take you up on your suggestion for reading these books. I am finishing up Dean Koontz's 77 Shadow Street and will put The Hunger Games on my next to read list.

The society in which this movie depicts North America living under seems to be exactly the kind of society that Obama and elitist Democrats envision.
Correction, the global banking elite envision this type of society for the whole world, and they're going to get it at this rate. They laugh when Americans fall into the 2 party scam.

When I think of a possible outcome to correcting the vast class distinctions between the masses and the elites in this society, I think of South Africa. While South African society was very unfair and unjust under British apartheid rule, it is really no better since the changes have been made because the system simply reversed which color of skin became the elitists and which color became the oppressed.

Not only is it no better, its far worse. Violence, rape, murder etc. are exploding there. Its on its way to being another completely ravaged African nation.

I watched The Hunger Games last night, and before anything else I'd like to say that my wife, adult daughter in law and I all thought it was a really good movie.

Something about the setting for the movie unsettled me though. In the movie, North America is divided into 12 districts run by a Capitol City. The districts are all somewhat reminiscent of European countries under Communist rule, with the subjects of this world being equally poor and oppressed while the elite ruling class endulged in what financial gain was produced by the subjects.

There are high speed magno-electric trains that carry the elite in luxury to and from the outlying districts, so the vision is that the proposed high speed rail lines will become a fact, but at a cost to the North American countries that allows only the elite ruling class to benefit from them.

The subjects of this fabled future society live in districts that are impovershed and under a very strict Big Brother type of watchful eye from government civilian security force, very similar to what Obama proposes for the U.S. Workers are poor and work under adverse conditions, just as is the case in every country where organized labor forces have complete rule over the workers. After all, once every worker must belong to the "brotherhood", there is no longer any reason for the "brotherhood" to provide anything for all workers to be equal.....equally as bad off that is.

The society in which this movie depicts North America living under seems to be exactly the kind of society that Obama and elitist Democrats envision. A society where those who think they know better how to "take care" of the masses live in their deserved luxury while the masses exist to serve them. I suppose the society depicted in this movie is one that appeals to those who think themselves to be socially and intellectually "better" than others. Those who actually believe that their desires to rule over others is "progressive" thinking. But, how do the masses feel about this type of society?

A glimmer of real "hope" in this movie's depiction of the type of society those like Obama envision is that some who are accepted into the world of the elites are not very content with the way things are. The movie show revolt at the district level and an internal undermining of the elitist social structure from some of those accepted into the elitist society.

When I think of a possible outcome to correcting the vast class distinctions between the masses and the elites in this society, I think of South Africa. While South African society was very unfair and unjust under British apartheid rule, it is really no better since the changes have been made because the system simply reversed which color of skin became the elitists and which color became the oppressed.

Hopefully, visions of a possible elitist run, Socialist society such is depicted in The Hunger Games will be avoided by our very understanding that this is not the best way for society to go if all of mankind wishes to be truly free with the potential for equality.

Read the books. Much better than the movie.
