    Comparing two heat pump systems

We're looking at two 15 SEER heat-pump systems recommended by local companies that were recommended by a friend. Basically, I want to see if the two systems look equal.

We live in Florida and our home is 1,800 square feet on one story.

    System 1:
    Heat Pump: Trane xb14 model 4TWB036G1000A http://trane.com/Residential/Product...B14-Heat-Pumps
    Handler: Trane GAM5A0C42M31 Hyperion 5KW

    System 2:
    Heat Pump: Carrier 25HCC536 | 3-ton BTU http://www.residential.carrier.com/p...formance.shtml
    Handler: Carrier FX4DNF037

    Do you need more info?

    Thanks in advance.

XB14 is a builder model. HCC5 is a step up model, much quieter unit. The Carrier has high & low pressure switches and compressor cover on its scroll. The XB14 has a recip compressor, specs don't list external compressor protection.

Both are quoting fixed speed air handlers. Personally I'd step up to variable speed and get a control with dehumidify on demand like a Vision Pro IAQ, Prestige IAQ or the like from Emerson or Aprilaire.

    Trane: 15.00 SEER, 12.50 EER, 9 HSPF
    Carrier: 15.00 SEER, 12.50 EER, 8.5 HSPF

If YOU want change, YOU have to first change.

If you are waiting for the 'other guy' to change first, just remember, you're the 'other guy's' other guy. To continue to expect real change when you keep acting the same way as always, is folly. Won't happen. Real change will only happen when a majority of the people change the way they vote!
