lately I have both my PC & laptop connected to the DSL router via CAT 5 cables.
I thought that might be more secure; I unplugged the wireless adapters.
do I still need to change my WEP password regularly?

WEP is a part of the 802.11 wireless protocol. It is not used when wireless is turned off.
FYI - WEP has been ungraded at least twice with more secure encryption methods. Most newer routers include WPA/WPA2 with 128 bit encryption.
