After some investigation I discovered that the outlet the equipment was on and I was using had 240 volts going to a 110 outlet!
I've run into that a couple times where there is 240 on a 110 outlet. Sometimes I get paranoid, and check the outlet with my meter before I plug into it.

That's the logic I run into frequently. It's amazing how many people have no clue about electricity at all!

Thermal image camera, or even inexpensive temp gun, can be used to cure ignorance.

Probably ain't gonna fix stupid, but you can fix ignorance.
Which makes more sense to you?
CONSERVATION - turning your thermostat back and being uncomfortable. Maybe saving 5-10%
ENERGY EFFICIENCY - leaving your thermostat where everyone is comfortable. Saving 30-70%

DO THE NUMBERS! Step on a HOMESCALE.
What is comfort? Well, it AIN'T just TEMPERATURE!

Energy Obese? An audit is the next step - go to BPI.org, or RESNET, and find an auditor near you.

That's right, why is everyone being so hard on the store workers? They are just trying to take care of their guests! PETA compliant!
