TRANE scrolls
I recently purchased and installed 21scroll compressors from mid west TRANE.
I was told that these are some of the first compressors to come out of the plant in Mexico. I have had two fail and more making noise. Has anyone else had any problems with these compressors?

I packs. New coils, new dryers, of course, completely checked at start up. Weighed charges, amp draws, the whole nine yards.

Varying tonnage as there are multiple comps per unit.

I did have a problem with the sight glass seals being leaky and crusty from the factory.
Might have been an indicator of things to come.

Hi Dave,
Did you check the bellyband crankcase heaters?
The "cornerstone" scrolls must have crankcase heaters.
If the compressors are getting noisy, it could be refrigerant washing the oil off of the bearings.
This occurs when one compressor, of a tandem pair, starts and lowers the crankcase pressure of the other compressor.
The refrigerant is boiled out of the oil and during this process the bearings get the oil washed from the bearings.
When this compressor starts, the bearings are dry, no lubricate.
Let us know.
Good luck,

I STARTED WITH NOTHING, AND I STILL HAVE MOST OF IT!

I dont prefer Trane compressors. Thats the nice way to say it. There could be more to this, acid, burnouts, txv, etc.

Two were just locked up solid, in warranty. Haven't got to mess with the 3rd yet, other than disconnecting it.
