    Goodman compressor failure?

    I’ve got a problem with a new Goodman AC. The system works great for 30 minutes but then the compressor stops running but the condenser fan is still running. When I turn the system of and on again the condenser fan starts but the compressor makes a humm sound and then a second or so later stops. It is as if the compressor is stuck. The next day it will do the same thing all over again. Run good for 30 minutes and then stop. Does anyone have any idea what problem is?

    Details:
    New 3Ton R22 split system
    Goodman compressor w/ hard start kit and coil with TXV.

    77/190 PSI
    superheat = 7 F
    supercool = 9 F

    When running: 1419 cfs, 95 F outside, 86 F inside, 61 F from vents --> 25 F cooling

    pressure when compressor is not running: about 130 PSI on both high and low side
    pressure when compressor is running: 77 PSI low side and 190 PSI on the high
    It's a recip compressor.

    Can you check pressure and amps on compressor in moment when compressor stop running.

    That would be an interesting test. I’d have to get a new multimeter that does measures current and I’d have to watch the system for 30 minutes and wait for the precise moment it stops. What would be the sign of a bad compressor? Thanks

    better check that pot relay on that start kit, if it;s stuck closed that start winding is overheating, nott likely it would run a half hour but it could I guess, if your not sure take it off and see that way, prob doesnt (have to have it) but never hurts, exp if your press equalizes during off cycle. Also check amp vs.fla on chart, is it getting hot by the touch, need more info. Check cap and fan proformance, anything can be wrong on a new unit just like an old one, I have alot of new crap bad these days.

    If your sitting at 190 psi and it's 95 deg. out your not pulling any air through the condenser. Can you feel air coming out of the top?

    If he wasn't pulling any air thru the condenser coil his head would be high. Very high.

    Besides new unit. Why wouldn't it be moving air?

    Recip on new unit?

    Did you release the nitrogen charge before vacuuming?

    You are right chaard. There is hot air coming out of the top. Kida has to since it’s blowing 25 F cooled air in the house. And yes it is a recip. The smaller Goodman models are still recip. Yes I did release the nitrogen before vacuuming.

    Ya, I could have thought that through but my point was. Why is there only a 3-5 degree condenser TD. Should be 15 to 20 degrees. So weak compressor or start cap.
