possible need a new cent. ac unit. contractor says to replace the heater also
i am in possible need of a new ac unit. to get one of the high efficient units the contractor needs to replace the heater also due to the new fan /blower unit. is that statement true?

to get the most out of the A/C, a variable-speed blower is a must. But that said, it depends on your situation.
If rebates are available in your area, the higher the SEER the more money you'll get from them. But it will not come close to making it an "even steven" deal.
Remember is they want to sell you the most. What is IMO most important is a good installation. Otherwise the investment is a waste.

thank you. little back ground. i heat my house with a outside wood boiler (central boiler) i have a gas forced air unit that i have not used in years. i hate to replace something i dont use.

oe 22 years old. the ac keeps tripping the breaker

If your running a wood boiler, and don't want to use gas, you could replace the furnace with an electric furnace. Probably be cheaper.
Might even be able to find a variable speed motor to toss in that old junker of a furnace."Better tell the sandman to stay away, because we're gonna be workin on this one all night."
