    Fieldpiece SMAN3

Was curious if anyone else has or knows a little about these gauges, I bought them a little over a month ago and spent a pretty penny getting them, I really enjoy using them and having a Micron gauge built in was the main reason I got them and the sight glass in the manifold lol, was wondering if anyone has had or read issues withthe sman cause I swear sometimes (only sometimes) when I close off my manifold on the suction side it is leaking past, which is a big problem. But all in all I enjoy using them, I'm sure its got a year warranty on it so I'm sure ill be sending them in soon.

I always wondered how you use the sight glass on gauges.
    What can it tell you?

Not much it just looks cool haha...this is My first set with a sight glass on it, actually my first set of digital gauges ever, but all I could tell is between liquid and vapor going in the system but that's a given, and if your manifold is leaking lol

If your refrigerant is getting to cold and you can't get high enough vapor pressure(cause its all liquid) you can flip the tank and barely crack your valves the sight glass lets you see if you are vaporizing the refrigerant before it gets to your unit. I don't suggest charging like this though.

It will also show you if you are recovering liquid instead of vapor or if you are sucking alot of oil out of the unit.

Are you sure you don't have the SMAN2 set. The 2 doesn't have a micron gauge in it, the 3 does, the 4 won't have one either.

I have had an sman3 for years and have had both temp clamps crack and break but counter guy where I bought just gave me new ones. My other techs sman3 has had to replace both seals because freon was leaking thru. Again, counter guy gave use the parts. He had only had his gauges 4 months but he was gorilla fisting the valves when closing. The sman handles are small I think for a reason, so you only finger tighten the vavles. I love my gauges and the support where we bought them is awsome too.

I think Beebthere has gotten into the saki again lolol.

Not only will the SMAN4 have a micron gauge they will have a vacuum port with 3/8 inch bore.

It will work well with my Appion Megaflow speed vacuum set and TEZ8 vacuum pump.

I assume when I turn my can upside down that I'm guilty of that but it sure speeds things up when I'm in a hurry.

I got the Apion G5 recovery unit. I just switch the leads and vapor pump it back in.
