tons of hvac per mechanic
Would someone know a quotable source for recommendations of how much equipment one mechanic should be responsible for?
I would expect something in the 2000 ton per mechanic range with comercial equipment.

I have about 10k tons I maintain an service yearly. Not including other start ups and new service. If I only had 2k to worry about what would I do for the other 350 days of the year
It's hard to stop a Trane. but I have made one helluva living keeping them going.

I use to work for a major department store chain, Me and another guy were responsible for 14 stores in western NY with units running from 150 tons to 250 ton chillers (this was 20 years ago)
It's not "number-of-tons", it's how many chillers you have to work on.
and to honest, That job was the single most boring job I ever had.
and every now and then, on a Friday afternoon at 3:00 or 4:00pm I would be in Buffalo and have to drive all the way to Syracuse to look at a unit, that sucked.GOVERNMENT

Our mechanics take care of 14-15 chillers each and every thing associated with those facilitys (trouble shooting, repair and replacement) including all ddc controls, vavs, pumps, speed drives cleaning air handlers and condenser coils or cooling towers, they at times may have to also take care of walk in's and ice machines. I find we go in further than other similar hvac maintenance departments.

large commercial installs (by others)as an OEM start-up tech 2-3 jobs running 2500/3000 tons each water cooled self contained or rooftop VAV systems is the norm
