It sounds like this is kind of what got us here in the first place. The first guy who came out knew my renter/friends and had supposedly been doing their annual checkup each spring on the system which is why they called him. In order to save them and ultimately me some $$ he reused the existing freon and also I'm guessing didn't install a line dryer when he came out and swapped the compressor. (again all that happened while i was camping for a week with no phone service). So now the warranty hired tech is saying well there should have been a line dryer installed, so its a faulty installation and that's why the warranty company won't cover it.

Sounds like theyre grasping at straws. Anything to not pay a claim.

There still may be the factory installed one in there but some put them in and some dont. Do you have a Make/Model?

A drier is good practice..... its impossible to know if the lack of one caused the failure...

Have the guy who replaced the compressor do the txv replacement. They will probably cut you a deal on the price. The txv issue is likely what caused the compressor failure in the first place.

As for the filter drier they are best practice but there's tens of thousands of AC's running without one.

The carriers did not have a liquid line drier installed in the unit and it was purchased by the installer on the r22 units ,the 410a units come with one in the box and was to be installed at the indoor unit

The goal of the "home warranty company" is to sell you their policy. Their "profit" is made by then finding a reason to deny your claim. Most of these companies aren't worth the paper they are selling. Horrible coverage. But does sound like you should have had new freon filter/dryers installed when the system was opened up and the compressor was changed. As posted earlier the compressor failure could be related to the bad TXV (expansion valve). I'd go back to the person who changed the compressor and as mentioned ask them to repair AND install freon dryer at the same time. Would also like to know WHY they didn't install filter dryers when compressor was changed?? Good luck as sounds like you've got a mess!
