The third party never won over the public in one fell swoop here but without the first step they would not be where they are today. In the early stages they did not have much power but influenced the party in power to make changes in the spending habits of the government. Part of their clout was that the press would actually print their platform and after the election when they took the government to task. I am not sure if your press has any interest in upsetting the apple cart, they get paid well enough with just two political parties. It is easier to report on something when there is only two sides, a third alternative is just too confusing.

Obama; right foot hard on the accelerator to hell and damnation.
Romney; right foot with a nice even pressure on the accelerator to hell and damnation.

Folks, the ship of state has had the rudder welded in place. We are headed into the long night of obscurity, anarchy and dictatorship. The choice we make this Fall is how fast we get there.

My opinion is that the only candidate that had the tools (cutting torch) to free the rudder so we can return to the right path was Dr Ron Paul. ALL the rest of them just argued about how fast we should go and perhaps some side discussions about the ship's fuel economy... :-)

And our 'Tea Party' is doing that now. However:

I do NOT think it wise to split the conservative vote THIS FALL and let BHO have another term.

Actually, I think it would be somewhere between stupid and just plain foolish (as in only a fool would risk it) to not do everything we can to keep BHO out this fall.

I tend to agree; both choices are not really great... however: One will get us to the bottom a lot faster than the other... with the result of more effort to crawl back out. So perhaps the real choice is: Do I want to go to the bottom faster or slower? Since there is NO CHANCE of Dr Ron Paul becoming POTUS (and he even agrees); then it seems the real choice is how fast we go down and how far we go down. It is clear (and even noted by others) that Mutt will not take us as far down nor as fast. Simple choice to me.

Not really sure if it is possible, but could you have an independent such as Johnson as President and the House and Senate with Republican majorities? Not asking if it is likely, just do not know the finer details on your political system. I think that would be an interesting combination.

Technically it is possible... however history says it will not happen... Splitting the vote and getting what you do NOT want... well history says that DOES happen.

Sure we have some turn coats and RINOs and then some "moderates" to boot but Democrats to a man go from liberal, socialist, Marxist and communist. Insanity is defined as doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

You go ahead and vote for whomever the "lesser evil" presented to you is, and stomach it. Clearly you can not be shown what the problem IS. You'd rather stand around complaining about the state of affairs and remain cluelss.

Just on the SINGLE issue of national healthcare, both Obummer AND Romney are equals. Yet in your eyes Obummer is a Commy, and Romeny is "Liberal". Clinton was a "liberal" too. Great job HE did, right?

Seriously Glenn, you need a little more education and some time to sharpen your critical thinking skills. There isn't a dimes worth of difference between Romney and Obama. Both are professional liars in suits. If you can't see that, you deserve what you get.

MY definition of "Conservative" and your's are totally different, I can derrive.

Shirley you cannot be serious. Obviously, to everyone else, there is a big difference between rommney and obummer.

You third party guys need to work on winning local elections, work your way up, not expect to occupy the top spot with one guy and no support network in place. You are gonna have to pull yourselves up by your boot-straps, nobody is going to give you the credit you are asking for without some sign of substance. One guy running for the top slot does not cut it. I don't care if he sounds like George Washington resurrected, one guy is just an empty suit.

I like the idea of the 'tea party', it is not functioning as a third party but as an endorsement.

Our system, such as we have to work within, there is your best bet for a third party emergence. I have seen nothing else to compare it to in my life-time.

We will be a swing state for many years to come. Sure, we have plenty of left-wing whackos, but plenty of people on the other side too. People who have lived here understand that, and understand why is it that way. Gary Johnson was very popular here. If he had a chance to win the Presidential election, I'd vote for him except for his position in on legalizing drugs. As it stands now, a vote for Johnson would be a vote for Obama.

Funny all I can say is that you must be a communist if you prefer to see a communist serving as the President of the US.

Romney is no communist and Obama is but your saying there's no difference so that means you want the rest of us just sit it out or throw our vote away and allow a known communist to destroy America in the next four years.

That says a lot about you motives freemind. I'm sure you are not stupid and know about Obama being a commie. So who is a conservative American and who is a commie or needs a dose of common sense bad?

Romney is not a conservative but he is no communist either nor close to being one. Obama was raised as one and has never faltered from his mission. Romney was the governor of the most liberal state in the Union so he went along with the flow on health care for MA.

He has since publicly changed his position on it while Obama defends Obama-care with every breath in his body. I believe that explains my position and what I think about allowing the communist to become President for the next 4 years and what I think about your position allowing him to do that. Remember Romney chose Paul Ryan for his VP. Thank you, thank you very much

Well said Glenn, I am no fan of Rommney either, but we do not need any wet-noodle 3rd party guy trying to screw things up for us more than we already have to contend with.

I'm a Libertarian, have been for many years. I like Gary Johnson and will be voting for Romney/Ryan. Gary Johnson didn't do well in the Republican Primary so he switched to the Libertarian ticket as plan B. Both Johnson and Paul are libertarians in ideology and have been for a long time. The libertarian philosopy is growing in the US, it doesn't have critical mass to win an election in todays two hose race type election. Romney isn't my ideal candidate. He is good on the economic side. I agree he is more of a statist than I prefer but the choice is not between Johnson and Romney but Romney and Obama.

I'd prefer acceptance voting, it would eliminate the two horse race aspect of our currrent system. Vote once for all the candidates that are acceptable to you. I'd vote for Johnson, Paul, Cain and Romney. Let the candidate who has the most votes win.
“I am for doing good to the poor, but...I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. I observed...that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer.”

Sensible position. I am also a basic libertarian, but we have to vote on the choices that be and not the choices we wish we had.
