    Flashing d13 light

I have a luxair 5 ton commercial unit. When it cools down at night and the ac gets to temp and kicks off it wont start again and flashes D13. What is D13?

    D13 ?

Where are you seing this light.

Luxaire package units sometimes will have a red LED that flashes out trouble codes located on a board inside the control panel.

Most likely its locking out on freeze stat.

There should be a code list somewhere in the access panel.

The light is flashing on the control panel by a spot that says D13 by the reset button

Sounds like the D13 is just a circuit board component ID label. Is the light flashing a certain amount of times then a break and then flashing the same amount of times? What's the model and serial number of the unit?

    UNIT FLASH CODES
Various flash codes are utilized by the unit control
board (UCB) and the ignition control board (ICB) to aid
in troubleshooting. Flash codes are distinguished by
the short on and off cycle used (approximately 200ms
on and 200ms off). To show normal operation, the control
boards flashes a 1 second on, 1 second off “heartbeat”
during normal operation. This is to verify that the
UCB and the ICB are functioning correctly. Do not confuse
this with an error flash code. To prevent confusion,
a 1-flash, flash code is not used.

On Steady Control Failure - Replace Control
    Heart Beat Normal Operation
    1 Flash Not Applicable
    2 Flashes Control waiting ASCD
    3 Flashes HPS1 - Compressor Lock out
    5 Flashes LPS1 - Compressor Lock out
    7 Flashes FS1 - Compressor Lock out
    9 Flashes
    Ignition Control Locked Out/
Ignition Control Failure / Limit Switch Trip / No
    Jumper Plug in Heat Section
    10 Flashes
    Compressors Locked Out On Low
    Outdoor Air Temperature
    11 Flashes
    Compressors Locked Out Because The
    Economizer Is Using Free Cooling1
13 Flashes Compressor Held Off Due To Low Voltage
14 Flashes EEPROM Storage Failure (Control Failure)
OFF No Power or Control Failure

I get 2 flashes which means awaiting ASCD. What does ASCD stand for?

    Anti short cycle delay.

It should just be a delay. If its locked your unit out permanently you might need to replace the board.

Also could be low load actually causing it to short cycle too since its occuring at night

So the board has been changed and we still have the same problem. Any suggestions?

The problem was not in the board in the first place. The anti-short cycle delay is just that. It prevents the compressor from going on and off in a very short period of time. Have you checked the basics, such as, filters, closed vents? Like Six said, it could be going off on a freeze t-stat. The coil will have to warm back up before the unit will reset and come back on.

Maybe I should have been more specific. ASCD should reset on its own and is there to protect your compressor and unit from excessive cycles over a fixed period.

Now I'm not sure what that is and haven't been able to find any literature to state exactly what Yorks limits are but what's apparent is it's not a board issue.

I think I stated if it locks out for good and will not reset it should probably be replaced.

Now I've got some bigger Luxaires that HAVE lost that board completely and I chose to wire around it and use the thermostat to limit cycles per hour because there was not a replacement part available locally.

You would need to find a technician who knows what's he's doing and wires in all of the existing safeties and will include a lockout circuit if there is a legitimate service issue.

Chances are you will need to locate one to do a heat load calculation to see if that unit is over-sized.

Misunderstood the other post thought he meant the board was bad and a tech at luxair stated we should change the board and we did to no prevail. Here is what happens at night when the outside air temp gets cool the ac cools down to the set temp (70) but when it gets above that temp and trys to kick back on the compressor wont come on and flashes the code and will only come on if I reset it. Hope that is a better explanation. Filters are all new and vents are open. Thanks for any help you can give.

Ok then it's calling for the AC too soon basically.

I found some information that says it's 5 minutes in between cycles. So if it gets a signal from the T-Stat in under 5 minutes it will hold the start until 5 minutes has passed.

    Supposedly.

Is your T-Stat mounted next to anything that generates heat ? Like computers, flat screen TV sound system etc ?

Anything that might cause it to climb excessively after the unit cycles off ?

Another option is to have a "Delay on make" timer installed in series with the Y1 output.

They're cheap and simple to install.

It would be installed in between the thermostat output and the board installed in the unit. A call for cooling would go through the timer first which should be set for 5 minutes and then to the board.

    No more short cycle lockout.

If it was the freeze stat, it should be flashing 7 then.

Yes the T-stat is by somethings that generate heat. Should it be moved?

Have your teh pull up the last 5 error codes. that should point him in the right direction of whats wrong.

Moving whatever is causing the false indication of load would be preferable.

Your stat should be in close proximatey to your return filter grille.
