I have been servicing for about 7 years, a 70-ton Mammoth cold deck 1984 unit that my customer would replace. The 2nd stage 30-ton Part windings start compressor, during heavy loads is tripping off, than back on in approx 2min by the compressor protection module. When the module closes its contact the compressor contactor chatters, I tested the contactor coil by applying direct 120v to the coil, it pulls in fine. My idea is to install a delay on make timer to allow the motor windings more time to cool. I did replace the protection module last year. I have checked my super heat which is at 55f – 40f = 15f. This is the original compressor.
