16 Seer Bryant vers 20 Seer Linex for older home

I am comparing a 16 Seer Brayant AC to a 20 Seer Linex System.
The Linex is the signiture series and is a very good unit but
it cost approx $$$$ more for the Linex. The furnace is 96.2% efficent
for the Brayant and about 98% for the Linex.

It is for an older home that uses a 2 ton unit. My older home is in the southern Indiana area.

Is the more efficent Linex unit worth the additonal cost?
This is something I need a quick answer to and I don't have time
for a bunch or reaserch. So in there anyone who can give me
some advise here?

Based on efficiency alone, the difference in operating costs would be virtually undetectable. So if efficiency is your only criteria, I seriously doubt you'd ever recoup a substantial higher purchase cost with lower operating costs.

The contractor selling the Bryant HVAC told me that there would
be no significant efficiency difference between the two units but
I wanted to double check that fact on the forums

He also noted that parts would cost more to repair the High Tech
Lennox unit when it gets older and out of warranty.

It is a Bryant Model 925T & 16 seer Puron Aid Conditioner that
I am considering over the a Lennex SLP98VH070U36B Furnace and
XC21-024 Lennox Signature Collection.


Any more information would be helpful.

The Lennox system is a fully modulating gas furnace and 2 stage a/c unit is all about comfort. The 2 stage cooling will help to de-humidify and maintain more even temperatures in the home. If you have only one zone I would install the I comfort thermostat. This is a communicating control system which has all the bells and whistles like humidity control and even wi-fi ability that allows you to monitor your home from your smart phone or computer.

This would be a very nice system and will be very quiet.

You need to compare apples with apples. That Lennox system should be compared to a Infinity ICS furnace and Infinity 17 or 20 AC. Carrier Infinity is still the best at humidity control, but any properly sized 2 stage unit with dehumidification on demand will still do nearly as well.

Can the confort thermostat be use with the bryant?

I live on a busy highway. With all the road noise, air conditioner noise in not an issue. Sometimes the AC noise is nice to have with the busy highway. I probably will move from the house and maybe use it as a rent house some day so I am looking for a basic system. I think the bryant might fill that bill.

In our area, much above a 14 SEER really has no economic payback. If you want the "latest & greatest" money no object, then the 16 & 20 SEER stuff is fine. But if money IS an object, get a 13 or 14 SEER that bumps up to 14 or 15 SEER with a variable speed blower. Actually for Indiana, dual fuel makes a lot of sense. Payback WILL happen, it won't for that 20 SEER.

I think the bryant would be best. I think I would add that programmable
therostat with humidy control mentioned a the previous post. It would
be nice to have computer control of the thermostat.

Does anyone have the model number of that bryant confort thermostat?

The icomfort is a communicating thermostat for Lennox equipment.

The Bryant 925T furnace is a non-communicating furnace with an ECM constant torque, 2-speed blower. When selecting controls for equipment, it's important to understand that you can easily, these days, purchase a t-stat that's way over the top compared to what the actual equipment it's controlling can do. There are many t-stats out there from a plethora of manufacturers and it seems there's more coming on-line every day. Decide what you want for features in a thermostat and then go shopping accordingly. Have your AC company purchase and/or just install one you purchase but don't get a lot of capability you'll never use. It just makes life more complicated needlessly. 95% of the population doesn't even use programming properly. So what's the point of having programming capability if you're not out of your house for 12-hours at a time every day? 3 to 4 hour programming events just doesn't do you any good. So again, decide what really fits your needs and shop accordingly.

Well the bryant is install except for the thermostat.
So what programmable thermostat would you suggest?
There are times I am not at the house for long period of
times.

I am out of the house more than 12 hours per day. I would think that would jusify usage
of a programmable thermostat. Just need a make model to get me looking at the proper
one for the bryant. Thank you,
