having a hard time getting hvac helper position :(
like everyone else.. i have been having a hard time trying to find a hvac helper position

i am a recent hvac graduate from long island, new york. i am a self motivated individual eager to get my feet wet but am having a hard time.
i have applied everywhere and been on interviews in many places. i dont know where to go anymore.
my resume is posted on careerbuilder and i have tried local unions and also applied to trane. i am having a lot of trouble getting hired
in despair as a last resort i have been applying to craigslist.. recently i have been hired but the job is horrible. the boss scams all his customers and treats his employees like garbage.. i am off the books and underpaid.
its horrible.. worst job i ever had.
does anyone here have any suggestions or know of any hvac jobs i can apply to in the long island/nyc tri-state area?
please let me know if you have any suggestions.

I did contact both TRANES.. Happague turned me down LIC doesn't answer me (2x they haven't answered me)
And yea I learned about that union thing a year ago.. I went there and they kinda laughed at me.. said it was because the economy was bad there are no jobs.. idk
I have tried contacting Apollo but they are never in office when I'm off work
I am still working with this crappy company a month later.. Gotta do what I gotta do for work..
.. but I'd love a new job
thanks anyways

try Superior AC in Plainview,Pam in Long Beach,Air Stream also in Plainview(638B)they have adds up in CB...one more LANE Associates in Island Park off LB BLVD(638B)...forget the union hall they only get jobs for themselves, and have no job support for the B side in LIC.hang in with Crappy AIR cond,INC and keep the search going on.another month Trane LIC will be doing winter maint and needing helpers..thru the winter...another 638B shop Micheal James Industries in Hauppague off Motor Pkwy just up from that big MOBIL gas station.did you do a short write up over in CL resumes..put in a title like "HVAC HELPER"..HELP ME!then a 30 word or so write up on your eagerness to get in and work the field, installs repairs maint...don't mention your looking to LEARN they know that, and they know you will move on to other shops when you max out with them...SAV-More Mechanical,Inter County Cooling both 638B...did you hit FW SIMS in W.Babylon?they do major 638 union jobs Yankee Stadium, and office uildings mostly in the city....and another 638B Fresh Meadow Mechanical doing the CANON world hedquarters off the Amityville?LIE exit there...

Just an observation so take it for what it's worth but it's a valid point....
You are getting the interviews which many times is the hardest part to do. Why are you not closing the deal at the interviews?
I would brush up on your interview techniques, it sounds as if they may be lacking.

One of the weakest things I find in an interview is the simple question (Why should I hire you instead of the others?". Most can't answer that question easily. Practice your interview with someone! Hang in there and good luck!

I would then focus an answer on what separates me from the bunch..... you probably have the basic skills they are looking for being you passed the first round of screening and got the interview. What previous jobs have you held that are not necessarily HVAC focused? How would the company benefit from those secondary skills you have mastered? for example maybe you held a customer service job or sales job that might help you increase their sales revenue, or maybe you hold a ticket in another trade that might help benefit the company. Only advice is be honest with your skill set exaggerating might get you the job but somebody will catch on and you will lose the job and your good reputation.
