I've seen this for the interior due to smoke given off during a potential fire but typically if it is outside, you can use pvc. Although I think that is the last thing the inspector would care about on this unit!

How long has this code been in effect? Is it the state or city? I was in NY last year and replaced a system for some friends, It was installed in 86 when the entire town house development was built. Every system there had black ABS on the drains and it was ran over into the washing machine standpipe.

What if the system uses a condensate pump? does the clear vinyl hose fall into the category?

Just curious! I wonder if this is code in other states? All other states I worked in used plastic.

I think its all of NYC (5 Boroughs) because i got knocked down in Staten Island for running PVC pipe instead of copper. A guy who used to work for me used to install commercial dishwashers and had to run everything in blackpipe. I'm not sure about the condensate pump scenario though.
Luckily, i dont do many installs in NY.

Guy I work worth, had an inspector tell him that all bathfans in a commercial building needed to be ran in BI pipe, few years ago.
"Better tell the sandman to stay away, because we're gonna be workin on this one all night."

"Dude, you need more than 2 wires to a condenser to run a 2 stage heatpump."

    "Just get it done son."

    Dad adjusted
