The difference is night and day! So a Construction Steam/Pipefitter Jm is $15/Hr. higher than Service HVACR Tech Jm?! Not mention the big differences in fringes. A classic example of why HVACR shouldn't be in a Fitters or Combination Local.

one thing the Bs have is they are their own person and make all the desicions on a job and or break down,calling their own OT and getting new vans ever 3 yrs....and you know the fitters see that pulling into a job construction site.

There are major differences in the programs. The "A" steamfitters package is designed to allow a working man to make a living wage, assuming working only half to three quarters of a year. The "B" package assumes that a guy wil work year round doing service, AND get a company vehicle/gas/tolls etc. In many locals, the B service mechanics work a lot more hours than construction guys. Think back to a time when these packages were negotiated, there was nothing but designed jobs for the pipefitters to install. They followed a blueprint, putting in pipe at a specific job, and then got laid off. The whole calling around looking for work thing was a way to allow freedom of movement of the workforce, AND allows guys ot stay working based upon their reputations. In other words, work hard/stay employed. Dont work hard, go to the hall and sit. A guys get taught this early on, and are accustomed to their reputation keeping them working.

Service guys typically get hired on and work until said contractor closes shop, they retire, or there is some reason for them to move shops. Itisnt nearly as commonplace for service guys to move around. They gettheir truck, set it up, have their accounts, and do their thing.

Its really two different jobs.

Here in AZ, the Construction Jm working Industrial and the Service Jm working on Applied Systems are $1/Hr. apart On-The-Check and exactly the same fringes.
I do understand that a 30 year Construction Jm can work for 30 different shops in that time.

There is no "if you do this you then get an A card".Just an FYI - the A guys have very little respect for B guys.

A guys are sitting on each others laps on that BENCH,and you can make that NO Repect,but then again we don't have to kiss ass or carry union banners on labor day
