    We don't credit check, but we do ask for authorization to do so just in case down the line a red light flashes. I would be happy to give any employee or prospective employee my credit report. I'm damm proud of it.
    Anyone with 25 bucks could get my company credit report online without my permission.

    We require a background check, and you're authorization for a credit check. We could care less about your credit score, but a full credit check shows all your address and "variations" on your name - required information for a good background check. This is probably the one most misunderstood pieces of the hiring process.

    In my younger days, I used to wonder why an application asked for "any other names used".....then I had a sister who was married and divorced six times with six different guys.....

    Your right, it is one of the most misunderstood pieces of the hiring process.

    What you said makes perfect sense. I never considered that.

    Prior to your post, I was convinced my way of thinking was obsolete (last job interview was in the '90's, last job application turned in was in the '90's).


    Nothing against other responses posted here, there were some very good one's (in my opinion), but that was the best answer yet.

    The national criminal database will give a response based on only one alias, since the known aliases are in there. So, you only need one alias. Adding other names can make the check take more time and be more costly, because others might use the same alias, ie: "little jim."

    If you ask to see the SS card, that is usually the legal name that tops the list of aliases.

    Thanks for the info. This clears it up. With all these employers asking for this; I was wondering what an "acceptable " fico. I too am not ashamed of my report, but I know that 78% of all bankruptcies are caused by catastrophic medical debt. The majority of these have insurance. I just was concerned in an effort to weed out the irresponsible, the innocent get hurt.
