Carrier Fixed Orifice Header Replacement

I. asked my local Carrier if a TXV kit was available and got a quick "No".

i coulda a sworn i seen a thread here where someone took a txv & made it work on a carrier ... not to any thanks of the carrier folks i think he cooked it up himself

Tried to catch you on the driers, nice work. Ever tried RX-11 to clear the orifices? Just curious. So far I have not had to change any headers... We have a million 50HJ style Carriers in Vegas.

by injecting it with the header apart, as close as possible or just introducing it to the system in general ??

Backflushing from the suction, with the compressor removed, or flushed after the drier through the system.

yea pretty much how i do it but never removed a known restriction ... on burnouts when i use Rx11 i do it very cautiously not to plug things up ... thats when i hate the headers & make sure to include on my quote the potential of them getting plugged ...

From the angle of the pics, I can not see any reason why you could not fit TXV and distributor. I think it would be somewhat easier.???
Would you know if each orifice in each leg is the same size.

What drier? Carrier don't know what a dryer is! They like too sell headers or maybe it's just planned obsolence. The strainer goes first and then the header.

My carrier dealer got a price for a kit to do this on a 24 ton 50 TJ but of course it was silly I think it was 1400.00! I am going to try this next time.

I hear you. Been doing this 20 years.

The back flushing trick doesnt always work and I always try to parse out the unknown in a repair and make sure my customer gets quality service in a reasonable time.

A lot of time and money can be wasted trying to save a buck.

Now this is the forurth or 5 th header replacement in 10 years and Ive lost count on how many of these Carrier RTUs Ive worked on.

Ive back flushed them before and it worked and Ive done it and wasted half a day and STILL had to change the header. Never again.

Its busy this time of year and I dont have time to waste chancing a repair.

Six one of my 50TJ 024 has a plugged orifice manifold and Carrier only supplies it in a txv retrofit kit. Have you ever done one of those? Do you know if it is possible to get the Acutrol pistons out?

Kline diagonal cutters.

Wire cutters basically. You can also chop them with tin snips too.
