Please help with new AC system

We live in north florida about a half mile from the beach in an older one story, 1500 s.f. home with low ceiling. Our system needs to be replaced and we have a quote for a 2.5 ton lennox 14hpx-030/cbx32mv-036 for $3,900.00, 10 year on part, new supplyand return air plenum in garage.
Is this a good unit ?

    Thanks

    No prices please.

2.5 tons could be just right or even little large for 1500sqft in N Florida. Although if the unit is in the garage and ductwork in the attic, you may need the extra capacity from duct losses. The pro's on this site recommed finding a contractor that will do a load calculation before quoting a system. A good contractor is more improtant that the brand or equipment. A properly sized 13SEER system can be just as efficient as an oversized 20 SEER system.

Design temps are a lot lower than most people think in many parts of the South. 93F, 77F wet bulb for summer desing in Jacksonville. Beleive it or not the central midwest has abotu the same design temperatures, with slightly lower humidity. It just stays warm in Florida since you don't have a winter. Winter design is 39F.

AS good as any other brand. That air handler has a VS motor, so that 14 SEER condenser should match up at least 15 SEER. If installed right, it will be a very comfortable and efficient system.

I guess my point is that you can get comparabel equipment from Carrier, Trane , York, Rheem, that will all meet 15SEER, and be equally reliable. But if not installed correctly, or sized correctly, you won't get 15 SEER. IF you have a home that only need 2 tons and installed a 13 SEER 2 ton system or a 20 SEER 4 ton system, the 13 SEER system will be nearly as if not more efficient. This happens far too often.
