    Hi,

I have an 1982 GE AC compressor and I believe that GE was bought out by Trane that year. Is it possible to determine if it is rated at 2.5 or 3.0 ton by the model or serial number?

    Model: BWX730A100A0
    Serial: 225893U36

Maybe ...U36 in serial number is 36000 BTU (3 Ton)?

    Thanks in advance,
    Dmitry

OMG!! Trane bought out GE? Trane wished they had enough money to buy out GE that would be like saying Yahoo bought out Microsoft.

    GE & Trane

Trane bought the Air conditioning Division of GE that year. When they did, they bought the best equipment out there.

2.5 ton 1977 model g/e weathertron here & still chugging. Replaced indoor core fan but other wise can not complain for 1550 sq ft.
