30 years ago we got buy without all the things we cant live without today...... Maybe if Americans would tighten their purse strings a little......quit trying to continue to keep up with the Joneses..... we would all be better off.

Same goes for citys and countys too........ Far too much waste.......and most of it is pure waste.

Beans and Cornbread........ thats what America needs to get back on track.

You should see the signs our local city has put up all around town...... they look like those fancy signs that you would see in a resort area or some historic town.....

Big gaudy expensive signs......and they put them everywhere.......

Yet.... you cant pick up the local paper without reading about another sinkhole shutting down another street because the water mains are corroding and washing away the dirt under the roads.

We are in a drought here....even though we have had rain this week....... but even in the middle of the dryest periods the street running beside our house has water running out of the cracks in the asphalt........lol and at the top of the hill there is a huge depression where the road is sinking.

City comes by when it gets bad enough to drag car parts off on and puts more asphalt mix on top..... but they do nothing to fix that pipe that is causing it.......and they do nothing to fill in the hole that is being made beneath their quick fix.

But we got signs better than ANY resort town in Tennessee.
I agree with you concerning "doing without".
We have gotten away from storing up for the LEAN times.
Banks will not pay a reasonable interest rate on savings, and both corporations and individuals just do not set aside for doing without.

That's funny, I heard on ABC news radio (yes your liberal media) that the CBO announced that the top 1% are paying 70% of the taxes. Maybe if the free loaders of this country would get off their lazy butts and be productive members of society the country would improve.

Heard a report thhis morning that outside a Welfare office several people were interviewed and said there just weren't any jobs to be had. Reported searched in a short radius and found 40 job openings....what does that tell you?

Interest rates are set by the Fed Reserve.

Bernake has been keeping them down to try and iniate loans and commerce.

Problem is there is no demand or confidence.

The fed is also paying banks interest on their reserves.

Thats the amount of money by law they are supposed to have on hand.

If they can make money by simply holding onto a mandated amount of currency then why would they lend money to anyone for the purpose of profit.

Education stomps liberal rhetoric and no its not the meanie banks who are at fault.

    Just more class warfare

Once again the typical conservative label and blame - no real solutions. While I agree we have no choice but to tighten our belts, this mess was caused by Wall St, not the individuals or cities that borrowed the money. If you truly believe all these problems are caused by welfare cheats and people who can't pay their mortgage you are beyond help. Run the numbers and follow the money to see the real story.

So Mickey Mouse's boss is a liberal - that's who owns ABC. I would agree compared to News Corpse, Disney is a little more towards the center but that is not saying much.

Really Net? Nobody else has any responsibility? My car's speedometer goes to 140mph so does that mean I should try to drive that fast? No, I have to be responsible for my own actions and face the consequences. Just because someone might loan me money to buy a house, doesn't mean I should do it. Just throwing numbers out here, but if they approved me for $2K a month house payment but I only make $2.5K, wouldn't I be just as much to blame as them?

Welfare cheats, food stamp mongers, are they the only problem, no. But they are a large contributing factor.

As the saying goes, the problem with socialism is eventually you run out of other people's money.

This mess was caused by the Clinton administration FORCING banks to lend mortgages to folks not qualified to pay them back. This has been explained CLEARLY repeatedly here... some folks just to not want to accept the facts... IMO because they think they will get something free at someone else's expense (as in federal handouts).

Take away the safety nets... and watch how fast folks go to work.

IMO we need another recession (actually it has started)...

One long enough to break the attitude of opportunism (how much can I get at someone else's expense) and get folks to go back to work. When we have a nation of folks who believe they only get what they work for... well we will be on the road to recovery and stability. Until then... well enjoy the mess we are in.

It has been explained using falsehoods not facts, if you truly believe that people not paying their mortgage caused this problem I probably could not dissuade you from your view other than to say you are misinformed and naive.

Been trading markets for decades... you are not gonna take me down that bunny trail.

The debacle of derivitives in mortgages would NEVER have happened if there were not low quality mortgages to bundle. And lets not forget the DiTech 125% loans... that was just idiotic.

IMO folks who screwed up and bought a house without enough capital and income... and loose it... well they learned a lesson they would never forget. Life is not guaranteed... it is risky. Learning how to be wise with risk is more important than how many toys I have.
