Markers - Which do you like?

I don't know what is going on with the Sharpie Company, but I have noticed that everything I mark with their "Permanent" products is seriously fading in the sun after about 2 weeks. I was wondering what the other techs use that does not fade in the sun. Lumber Crayon? Thick Pencil?

I use Elmer's Paint Pens...find them in WallyWorld in the craft section...

I've used Markal paint pens for many years. Typically, when exposed to bright sun, the marker paint will last longer than the paint on the unit or compressor.

Write on the inside of the panels....

I've been seeing more and more units with a spraypainted stencil on them. I think it looks like CRAP. Runny and drippy. Looks like a child did it.

The one method for identifying units that I do like is the engraved plastic plates that are then screwed or, preferrably riveted to the unit.

I used to use yellow tire marking grease pencil, lasts a long time and are cheap.

Used to use automotive touch up pens liked you'd use on a stone chip on your car. Got a label printer now, surprisingly cheap, great for labeling the aditional charge on mini split installs.

I've started using a paint pen I got from Staples. save the marker for inside the unit to mark install dates for parts, or mark parts being returned for wrranty.

I picked "berry" because no one was likely to also have that color. Was at a job and couldn't find my pen. coworker had it in his pocket? No, he picked out the same color randomly as well.

Like others, I use pait pens for outdoor use. Usually I buy them a Big Lots since they are much cheaper there than at WalMart or craft stores. Black and silver are the colors I have in my pocket. The black for sheetmetal and the silver for belts. They last longer than the Sharpie variety too.
