How to fix healthcare
To me the answer is pretty simple, but I seriously doubt my ideas would ever be embraced by our power hungry politician and entitlement minded population.
The reason why healthcare is so is expensive is a simple supply and demand problem. There arent enough doctors and the education required to be a doctor is too expensive too onerous and way over done for most practical medical conditions.
If the government, mostly states would de-regulate to a large degree our healthcare industry, the costs would drop sharply.
Much of what the state requires a doctor to do could be handled by a medical technician with a two year degree.
If people were allowed to go to a clinic with medical technicians who could perform even half of what doctors do without being required to have 10 years of college, you would see a massive increase in healthcare supply.
Complicated proceedures could be left to the specialists with PHDs.
Hell, show me how to set a broken bone a few times and I'll bet even a dumbell hvac tech like me could even do it. Imagine that. We have over the years way overblown the prestige of doctors if you ask me.
The other thing that could be done is to limit the liability exposure that doctors currently have. If judgments were capped to some percentage over what an individual would likely have lost due to doctor's error that would also reduce costs. Additionally bad doctors need to have their licenses revoked if they have a pattern of negligent behavior or prove themselves to be incompetent.
Massive judgements are paid neither by the insurers or the doctors, those costs are currently passed on to the customer, you and me. That needs to end.
Allowing insurance companies to compete across state lines will also help reduce the cost as competition always reduces cost and promotes better service.
People need to get realistic about health care. There simply aren't enough doctors to treat everyone for everything nor should they. It's silly but we have become accustomed to it. We need to think outside the box a little.
Those who insist on a pHd to treat them for everything that ails them should pay a premium for it.
The biggest impact to cost will be an increase in supply. When doctors lose about 60 to 80% of their business to medical techs with two year degrees, you won't have to wait in the waiting room an hour and a half past your appointment time. I guarantee it.
I don't know where I heard this, but lots of DRs say they will retire rather than endure OBAMA care....
Those who dance, appear insane to those who do not hear the music.
Those who believe, appear ignorant to those who do not know God.
If Obama care is allowed to stand, health care as we know it will no longer exist. As you said, many doctors are going to retire early, others will quit and many millions will be going to the doctor who otherwise would not have because it will be perceived as free.

Actually I have a couple of doctors in my neighborhood (50 ish) who may be leaving possibly next year because of the new "Health Care reform". They are strained by the limits of MediCare now. They state the New restraints are too much.
