Has anyone tried splitting up the weekdays to keep the weekend tech fresh? If so, how did you like it?

Our dispatcher has calls forwarded to her phone (home or cell) thru the week and then calls tech nearest the call. If that tech can't run call, then she calls next nearest tech. We rotate the weekend calls same as most others. Any "after hours" calls, ran by techs are always paid overtime regardless of total hours worked or holidays taken. We do however charge extra for after hours calls, so most times the dispatcher just takes call and we run during working hours as the HO does not want an overtime charge. And the dispatcher is paid 1/4 of hour O.T. for each call she handles. I think last week she made about 10 hours of OT during the week!!!

Gald you were willing to chip in and take that one. Those are my favorite and yet at the same time least favorite resolutions.
I'm getting added soon to our mantenance group on-call rotation. You come in on the weekends to assing the work for the hourly maint guys, then followup on any ciritcal repairs. Then you are the on-call guy that whole week for off shift (4PM-7AM) if there's a crisis and additonal resources beyond the off-shift skeleton crew are needed. THe rotation is about 10-12 guys, so it's only a couple times a year.
For example, this weekend a 3/8" polyflo air line came off a 6" butterfly valve on a comrpessed air dryer. The 900HP compressor and the plant header (no check valve after that particular dryer...crap) were ventign to a 3" pipe. IT took the header down to 40psi and of course tripped the boiler, on top of losing control of almost everything. Not a fun weekend. I got called to help sort out the comrpessed air problems. OF course it's 103F and one rental comrpessor won't run and another it tirppin out becasue the city water that cools it is 90F. Ya... the river is so hot that by the time it sits in the water towers and goes through pumps and throung a couple hot buildings, the water is 90F at that location!!!
