The story is poorly done. First, Louisiana's governor should be in jail. She should be the last fat dumb ***** with a opinion on federalizing the National Guard.

Second, the President doesn't need a governors permission to federalise their states guard troops. They are already federally funded and counted as part of a standing armed force component. It's already been done in the past by a democrat.

Yeah, that story is a perfect example of MSN's bias against the President. And it's misleading (aren't all of MSN's stories misleading?).
    WHY?

Of course you cant trust fox news either....

Some two dozen governors met in Charleston for three days of discussions at the annual summer gathering of the National Governors Association. The association's leaders sent a formal letter of opposition to House leaders last week.

The language in the House measure would let the president take control in case of "a serious natural or manmade disaster, accident, or catastrophe," according to the NGA.

"The idea of federalizing yet another function of government in America is a, the wrong direction, and b, counterproductive," Sanford said. "The system has worked quite well, notwithstanding what went wrong with Katrina."

I personally have no problem with this...had the prez been allowed to send in tanks and artillery into new orleans after katrina we could have saved a lot of money. Of course I still cant understand why he couldnt use the regular armed forces such as the air force to turn new orleans into an inferno....guess everythying was all wet and wouldnt burn properly...still...they could have dropped some of those daisy cutters...they would have gotten rid of the deadbeat survivors and did a lot of demolition at the same time saving precious tax dollars for people who really need help.

Didn't say it didn't happen.... Just think it's odd how the news agencies pick & choose stories that make people they don't like look bad, & try to word it in a way that might make their target look even worse in the eyes of the public.

Question: Why is it every governor would readily & quickly complain about the Federal Government's "slow" response to a natural disaster but at the same time are so willing to tie the President's hands by not allowing him the capability to respond quicker? Why aren't the news agencies raising these questions & more?

I think if the governors are only willing to publically complain about an idea to fix a problem then maybe they should also public come up with an alternate solution. Otherwise, they should keep quiet & stop whining.

    What's the difference?

They're all the same. They probably all get their stories from the same freelancers.

And if you knew anything about Mark Sanford, you wouldn't have used his quote. Or, being a lib, maybe you would.
No reserve. No retreat. No regrets.

For those who have fought for it, freedom has a sweetness the protected will never know.
