Just to clarify my reason to change all three.

You really don't have to, but fuses have what's call a melt point before it opens.

Taking this into consideration, the other two fuses may still show good. As stated, its either good or bad.

They could have had some "strain" on them and possibly melted a little. Normally that melt point would be instant and the other fuses would show defective.

Not knowing if the other two fuses were "strained", its good practice to change all of them.

seriously, do they use fuses in residential? besides the little 3 amps? could you post a picture of the "box of strained fuses"?

You never heard of a fused disconnect?

Suppose you find one blown fuse in 3 phase disconnect, repair problem that caused fuse to blow. I have always just replaced the fuse that was blown. Coworker said all three need to be replaced because remaining fuses that did not blow were strained. Never heard such a thing before, but I learn something every day. Any thoughts??

If I found a fuse that was straining, I'd give it a little prune juice.

But, I've never seen a strained fuse....

condenser fan motor,transformer or a CCH might blow just the one fuse,but a running load say a supply fan or compressor...as soon as the first fuse goes it is then single phase and the amperge spike knocks the second fuse.in a pinch if you need a unit running when you lose one fuse,and trip out to get it a 3/4"..5/8" piece of copper works great.you have the other 2 for protection till you get back small stuff maybe do a one for one on the big Trane rooftops style definitly all three get replaced.if the maint guy *****es $$$ let him ok it on the invoice....to go with one
