    hey guys/girls,
i have one of the intex above ground pools. it is 42 inches deep and 16 foot across. i have a solar cover that helps when it is cool but what do you do when it stays in the 100's for a few days? man it feels like a hot tub.

what do you guys do down south? a chiller? i brought some ice home from work (500 lbs) but that barely dropped the temp.

Might be a bit messy.... but throw the hose in there, turn it on and let it overflow until the water temp is right?

The ice idea seems better though, lol

Make yourself a fountain in the middle of the pool.

    Ah-ha!
So.... if you pull a vacuum too fast with moisture in the system it'll freeze it...

Stop me if you see where I'm heading...

So you make a huge cap that'll seal air tight. Hook up that 100 CFM vacuum pump you have laying around (you did keep it right? lol). Now.. if you put some sort of relay that runs off that stat that modulates the power to said pump... you should be able to cool that pool in no time.... heck ya might even be able to make an ice ring!

Or.... take that 500 pounds of ice, add some salt (to make it colder)... ta-da! Colder salt water pool... you know some yuppie somewhere would pay big bucks for this!

Perhaps you can get in good with someone with an extra tank of liquid nitrogen? Sure would make some cool fog. Ah, heck with that... y'all got some recovered freon right?

I better go to bed and let this topic get back on track.

I am in the midwest and thought of that recently. I was gonna go to the ice house and buy 6 blocks of ice and put it in there when the sun went down to see if it would drop the temp but never got around to it.

I think the only thing that would really work is as amick said, either let it over flow or just push down the side and let about 1/4 of the water out and refill. just make sure you fill it after the sun goes down!

And if you don't like my "flat rate up front pricing" try and negotiate the price on that big mac you just bought pricing is exactly the same method!

Ours is 34x16 in-ground so the ground temp. helps a lot. But the water temperature is still 79°F here in VERMONT!

We are sure you drive home in your Bentley and dive into your olympic size swimming pool then walk inside and marvel at your Harvard diploma while eating a sandwich made with grey poupon. Bahahaha

Tonys must have made his dough in the pizza business. He sure as hell didn't make the big bucks in the HVAC business.
