Soundproofing a compressor?
Has anyone out there ever had any success trying to reduce the noise coming from a compressor? The neighbors complained, the store had to put sound blankets around the cage that surrounds the condensing unit, and now the thing can't breathe with the 100 degree ambient. This is a krack unit with a discus inside. I was wondering why not insulate the compressor since it is cooled by the suction gas.....,.

Many of the higher end units use a compressor blanket.

Is the noise coming from the compressor? Or is it the rattling panels and fan that all outdoor refrigeration units seem to have?

Since the city is involved, and fines, and neighbors, I ended up building shrouds for the air intake, and installing four of those yellow blower units from harbor freight. They sit on top of the unit with the covers open, and blast the heat up and out. So far so good.
