    Carrier 30RAN022 Problem

I am servicing a 30RAN AcquaSnap Chiller in Puerto Rico and is giving T116 alarm. I checked the suction pressure transducer and it was over the 2PSIG that manual says it should read(operating pressures 300psiHi 60psiLow). Can this be the problem or should i look for another solution. Right now the condenser coil is corroded and the owner PR Air National Guard wants the equipment to at least work until september when they get the funds to replace it.

The T116 alarm for a 30RAN indicates your saturated suction pressure/temperature is running below the brine freeze point. This means the freeze point of say 32 degrres is being exceeded in the cooler refrigerant circuit. Verify the actual refrigerant pressure in cooler A ckt with an accurate gauge, and compare with the pressure transducer reading. If they pretty well agree then you have several areas to look at.
    1) low refrigerant charge, use the manual to determine correct charge or remove and weigh it.
    2) Restricted flow of refrigerant into and thru the metering device.
    3) The brazed plate heat exchanger has peviously frozen and passageways are collapsed within circuit a cooler section.
    4) If circuit b is running okay then water flow MAY be okay, however you should measure water flow rate and compare to the design sheet. If the size is actually a 022 you probably do not have a ckt b so check your water flow rate.
5)Verify that your water sensors inlet and outlet are accurate.

Start with these and see where it goes.

I checked the pressure and the transducer read +5psig where it should be +- 2psig than transducer reading. The operating pressures where 60psig low 300psig hi.

We know what your pressures are but what are your temperatures?

The actual temperatures when the chiller shut downs I do not have them because when I am at the site it works and it does not shut down in like 2 hours. From what I have been reding maybe the piping system is too short for the chiller but it has been running for at least 8 years.

How about the temps while the chiller is running?

    i agree with cc.,
low saturation , i would think charge, air or water flow, setpoint too low,.

Look and see if there is a strainer on the chill water lines inside the chiller. If so check to see if it is clean.

    Airflow... hehehehe

We need a heck of a lot more info than what you are giving to help you properly diagnose the issue your are having.
