Getting started as a sub contractor

I'm thinking about becoming a subcontractor. I am getting fed up with chasing my boss around just to get my paycheck.
I just wondering what I need to do and how to get started. Looking to do heating and ac installs and maybe branch into electrical and solar install.
I have 7 years of install experience with some service and sales experience. Any help would be great.

Why not just go get another job?
I like DIY'ers. They pay better to fix.

This is the 3rd place that has given me the run around about work. I've wanted to start my own business for a few years. Just thinking this may be a way of doing it.

First never chase the boss for the check. Next time he’s late tell him you’ll call the State Labor Department and report him. Your check has to be there the following pay week.

As far as being on your own again NYS dept of labor has all the state requirements you’ll need County and city are different.

Your worried about getting paid now wait on the GC

Yeah, that might take longer then his employer. To the OP, scrap the sub idea and be the contractor.
