Some of you know that I work in a petrochemical plant. I was in another area of the plant where they were cutting a reactor into to splice it to add 50' more feet to it. A de bottling necking project. This reactor was actually a 4' pipe, but 4" thick walls. Instead of using a torch, they were using water under high pressure to cut the metal. A clean cut. Water is bad a$$ under at least 100,000 psi or more. Roy

I always wondered how/what equipment was used to deliver the water.
What kind of pump could handle that without damage and wear.
What kind of pipe or hose could handle that without damage and wear.
What kind of nozzle could handle that without damage and wear.

You ever watch Orange County Choppers. They use those water jets quite often to cut through solid steel. Some pretty neat stuff.

The engine was a 350 hp cat with twin turbos beliveve it or not. Running at a steady high rpm. The engine was tied to a gear reducer then to this huge positive displacement pump that moved like a herd of turtles. It was all hard pipe except for some high pressure short braided hoses. The bit was an alloy or diamond orifice. The pipes were 1" with a 1/8 hole. The whole skid unit was mounted on a 24'Gooseneck trailer.
Sweet! Sounds really dangerous!
