This may seem like a stupid question -- but I'm about to replace my very old oil furnace with a gas furnace.

Would it be a prudent thing to get the ducts cleaned as soon as possible?

Does oil residue collect in the ducts?

With that said, does anybody have any links/advise about duct cleaning they can share?

    Thanks.

Only you can answer that question! Do you have an oily film on all you walls, ceiling, furniture etc.? if yes, than clean the duct system. Is your house clean, fairly dust free (no cob webs filling the cornors, than have your duct system cleaned every ten years. If your duct system has been exposed to water, than have it cleaned. If your home has a problem with bugs, mice or rates have your ducted system cleaned and treated as needed.

The duct system is a completly differnt system than the fuel oil system. the two should never come into contact with one another. Since you are going from a hot heat to a cooler heat and if you can, start with a clean duct system. Also this is a great time to have your chiminey cleaned. whether you are venting back to it or not.

    read at CDC.gov & EPA.gov about duct cleaning --
    change filters often
vacuum out duct under floor registers
seal ducts & boxes with mastic -- sucking in dirt is more detremental than any slight layer of oil --

be sure to get/ do a load calc
    read lots here
harvest rainwater, make SHADE,R75/50/30= roof/wall/floor, use HVAC mastic, caulk all wall seams!
