Gas regulator
Got 5 rtu's on common gas supply, each has it's own regulator after shut-off valve, before gas valve.
My question is, do they have to be horizontally mounted, or will they work vertically as well?
Arrow is pointing in the right direction btw.

It depends on the regulator. Did you get some numbers off them?
-
they work either way, just make sure the arrow point to the right direction and depending where you are the vent must be protected from water/ice, check the codes.
-
Should work either position. As previously noted, make sure the arrow is pointed the right way ! Also, if mounted horizontally, be sure the vent is protected from water/ ice accumulation.

Not all regulators are mutli position. Most are, but for example.......
From Maxitrol, "The RV81, RV91, RV111, & RV131 are
recommended for normal horizontal position only."

This was an older Maxitrol #3253. Hopefully it's the same as RV53 and is multi position. Gas valve made a buzzing sound when I went to fire it up. Had 24v but wouldn't open.

Does it have a vent limiter
If this is an inside installation and the regulator has a vent limiter (looks like a brass plug on the top of the regulator) it must be mounted horizontally and the vent limiter must be pointing straight up.

It's outside on a roof. Vent plug looks like its the same as the rest of the housing.

Then as long as the vent is protected from the elements your good to go. Have a great day.

You said vent plug on a roof. Is this a vent limiting device? If so , should not be on a roof top application. Vent should be vented to the atmosphere via piping or a special fitting that they sell. Vent limiters are not water or freeze proof. You can check this by removing it and seeing if it works.
You need to put the phone down and get back to work!
