Members - I need your help
Okay HVAC-Talkers, I need some help. I have a company that is looking for Service Techs. Problem is that they aren't getting a whole lot of traffic. If you know of anyone that would be interested, please share this with your contacts.
Any suggestions you have will also be appreciated.

From the website, it looks like they are mainly plumbers. That would throw off a lot of AC techs.
I don't think I would want to be assigned to do a bathroom instead of troubleshooting AC systems. Or to service a water softener....
I'm not really fond of Armstrong, either. It's a cheap Lennox product.

That the company name starts with "Plumbing" is a pretty big tip-off...

So what would you suggest that a company that does both do? If they began as a plumbing & over the years added HVAC to their core business they would indeed be Plumbing & HVAC.

The website.
A lot of outfits are called "plumbing and heating," but if they start doing bathroom remodels and water softeners, that makes them more "plumbing" than HVAC in my book.

When an outfit is "plumbing and heating" around here, it is literally plumbing and circulated water heating, not HVAC. In my area, that would be extremely rare.

I would start a parallel company, and call it Algona HVAC, and make it clear that you will not be asked to dig up a septic line.....

I see 2 things wrong with the site that would make me question as to bother applying. Mind you at this point in my job search id apply anyway but not eveyone is me.
The site is very basic. It looks like a very small scale, possibly behind the times company. Not that big of a deal but it could make a difference in applicants.
Id also like to see a complete job description. If im going to apply for an hvac tech id like to make sure its what ill be doing. Id rather not be hired as a tech then come to find out im really a ditch digger with some hvac on the side. A list of the job requirements, whats involved in day to day stuff and whatever else that fits. If its gonna end up that the hvac tech is probably gonna end up doing some/lots of plumbing thats fine as long as its clearly stated in the job description.

In which case, he will get plumbers, most of whom think "superheat" is what happens to a pipe before you solder it....

I'd have a problem with $14.00/hr. if I had three years experience. Of course, it's in Iowa so maybe their cost of living would allow for a wage like that. Round here a third year apprentice is making almost twice that money on the check.

they probably bang out the zoned HW baseboard and boilers and everything else that carrier water,but freon,vacuums,controls is an entire different show and has to be seperate as suggested with a different label crew.perfect example is PAR GROUP here in NYC the finger in the pipe is a 40-50yr old image,and see how simple they added the other groups blending it all in http://www.pargroup.com/

Could be that the website says nothing about AC, only heating which implies that as a service tech you might only have a job during the cold parts of the year.

Thats what i would gather from it. It looks to me that this company is PLUMBING& heating
Every customer you take for granted today will be someone else's tomorrow.

timebuilder's option seems to make sense.
That said, I'm not really a business type, so I don't know what would be involved in doing that nor if it is even wise or feasible.

where im at in Minnesota if a company does both plumbing and HVAC, most of the time, the name includes "plumbing and heating". Maybe its a midwest thing... But I wouldn't even consider applying for a job that requires those certs and starts at $14/hr. That would be like getting a 4 year college education and then taking a job flipping burgers. There is a lot of time invested into getting a journeymens licence in HVAC and plumbing and i don't know why anyone would spend the time and go that far to take a job that pays that little. A job requiring those certs should be well into the 20s/hr range in my opinion.
