    vsd on YT

Ok guys I had a IGBT board blow up on the vsd module. It was not hard to find what was wrong with it . just was not sure why it did it i know there was power lost and then about 4 hours later the vsd blew up.. the motor meg ok. i know it put a lot of stress on everything in there. anyway i just installed a new VSD module kit and replaced the trigger board. those were the only parts i could see that were damaged. after starting the chiller i got a code phase C gate driver. i have done all the steps to make sure if the OSCD logic board is working properly. i have moved pins J8 J9 and J10 around and i still get the same thing. pushing the test button on the logic board only has the
-C not working. all 6 lights on the IGBT board lit up. i have done the test procedure on the IGBT module and also on the Harmonic filter IGBT module. They both check out ok. but there are only 5 lights that are on the IGBT module for the Harmonic filter.....or are all 6 supposed to be lit up?

is there any other way to check the filter logic board and the OSCD logic board to see if they are bad before having to change them out?

I have read the manual and did everything it said to do. I am not a York employee or JCI, technical support will not talk to me. I have talked with several other techs and no one can figure this out. Are there any kind of resets on the CTs that is causing the phase imbalance?

model number YT K3 D1 E3-CNJ This is a 351hp I also had to change out the Breaker in the drive ..

Thanks Helpful input would be great..

from the manual (which it sounds like you have)...but only if you have the model that i think you have...if not, then this may or may not help.......or it might or might not help.....or it could or could not help.........green eggs and ham.

If the display continues to report a gate driver FLT in the same phase, even with the cables swapped, the problem is in the OSCD Logic Board.

    it also states...

Also, be aware that a gate drive fault can be initiated when the OSCD is not running if a power supply has failed on the gate driver board.

as a side note, when was the board made? there should be a sticker above the 'REV' printed on the circuit board between the 2 transformers...it would look something like '00123H0196'.

if the date code is between 2 particular dates, then there was a thing and you made it waaay past the thing.

they had a problem with a capacitor on the board that would cause this issue and they would pay to have it replaced, however, that was over 10 years ago and it requires that the module still be fully replaced...but it might help solve the root cause of the problem...it would be quite difficult to get them to pay for it now.

    Hmm

You gave us the Machine M/N could you tell us the drive M/N and if it is a Millenium or Optispeed VSD ?

Have you tryed to unplug the harmonic filter board from everything and see if it clears the fault.

No not yet. unplug everything.... Or just off the logic board I know it's optional but ?? Do you think that the filter module is messing it up also ?

Yes unplug all the cables from the harmonic board to where they plug in to the other board see if that helps. That should tell you if that board has a problem or not. Its called a process of elimination.

Yea I did all that thanks. Yea i got the process of elimination part. It just suck when you spend over 500K or more with a vendor and when you ask for a little tech support you don't get it. Anyway. The OSCD logic board was bad and chiller is running good now. But I still don't know if all 6 LEDs are to be lit on the filter igbt cause only 5 r. No faults chillers good. Thanks

I wanna say all 6 should be lit I would have to look at it a little closer , the harmonic board can cause problems not sure if it would affect the problem that you were having , power problems will play havoc with those boards logic , trigger , harmonic , as you well know first hand and the cost can be expensive , tech support unless you work for the factory they don't even want to talk to you I wouldn't even try for help they will most likely tell you to call your local office to dispatch a tech. Glad to hear you got it working.
