looking for a leak detector

I spoke to an Inficon customer service rep who told me that the Whisper should not be used as your primary leak detector. You may want to try calling again and talking to a different rep, explain the situation from beginning to end, you purchased a leak detector as your primary leak detector and it doesn't work for what you needed to. They may help you out. They helped me out after my leak detector was stolen.

After all, you already spent the money, what's the harm in trying another phone call? And for the record my DTek select works very well, I have found countless leaks with it. Only issue with it is the extremely short battery life.

Inficon customer service is EXTREMELY good at least it was for me I bought my first d-tek select many years ago and it worked great for about 3 years than started acting crazy going off on any and everything.. So I called inficon and it was out of warranty Sooo what did they do??? They sent me a new one and walked me through fixing the old one.. I am currently still using the old one and have used the new one maybe once or twice!

That is the definition of customer service! Inficon gets 100% rating on customer service from me

And as for picking up leaks it works close to flawless! But I still wanna h10pm

Dtek is next to worthless picking up trace refrigerant with nitro vs H-10 will be all over it.

mine is an old GE version of H-10b. made by same folks with GE label
kinda of a pain dragging a cord around, but worth it.

I'd take a chance on a used H-10 for $100... just have the seller guarantee it with a few days right to return if you can't get it working. H-10 are pretty durable, so odds are in your favor.

I am like JP Smith. I have been using H-10s since 1972 and i have found any as reliable. And i tried several other brands. Halide torch works good in non windy, shady places. BTW i feel like the corded ones beat batter powered. Not on a case by case basis but day in day out.

The H-10 was my first, and will be the only, leak detector. If something happens to it - I'm buying another one.

BTW, nacoomer, I have a few mouths to feed also - and IMO the best tools help tremendously in that area.

The h-10 is the best detector that you can buy. PERIOD! Bar none!

So, I guess the better thing to ask is, do you want to find the leaks? Do you want to be the guy who finds the leaks that nobody else can find?

Or do you want to be just another joker who walks past the tough leaks because his equipment isn't up to snuff?


The choice is yours.

Mine is a beaten and battle-scarred veteran and it still finds leaks as well as the day it was new.

Damn, you guys cost me money. Digicools, a couple of Vetos, numerous other tools, and now I just ordered an H-10PM. By the way, I found it at autobarn.com for $377.95 shipped!

H10 is and has always been the best leak detector that I have found. In 35 yrs of service and training new techs, every few yrs I get talked into trying a battery leak detector the last one being the fieldpiece srl2. But have not found any that consistently compare to the H10. I make a living with my tools so I believe in buying the best and most durable tools. As far as not being able to return the leak detector that you bought I dont understand why the place that you bought it wouldnt help you out with a trade up or something. I try to build a relationship with the manager of my suppliers and they know if something doesnt work for me Im returning it. If a company doesnt stand behind their products 100% than its not worth buying!!!!

In 30 yrs of being a service tech I have left the H10 and have been spanked into submission several times (by young whooper-snapper tech's) and then tried the next new gun on the block! I just purchased a new H10PM again for the third time now after flunking with 3 other types. A Bacharach informer II did a superb job with a fitting leak, the borrowed H10PM did blow it out of the water on a R410A Formicary or Champagne leak of the tubing itself so I gave in and went and bought a new H10PM. I have proven to myself even in a saturated room of Freon that the H10PM "will" find the leak period!

I've had a Bacharach Informant II for a few months now, have used it several times (for refrigerant only, no experience with the natural gas setting). So far I've got nothing but good things to say about it. The thing is great, and MADE IN THE U.S.A which is a rarity for tools of this sort nowadays. I've used an H-10 at the schoolhouse, and it works great as well. I'm a believer in quality tools all the way, but "best" is a tricky term to use as a blanket. It really all depends on personal experience and preference, as long as you buy of a reputable quality anyway.

Bacharach lies about the "made in the USA" thing, I've taken apart many of their alleged American made tools and found nothing but foreign components inside them, its a matter of time before another company file a complain with the government about, similar to what happened with Leatherman tools, is illegal to write "made in USA" on a big pile of Chinese crap.

I have no doubt that the components inside are foreign. Just about any electronic component has been made overseas for years now. Probably can't source a lot of these semiconductors in the states even if you tried. I'm sure they're assembled here, though. Hopefully it at least puts someone here to work for the day rather than outsourcing the whole process.

how come when ever i go into a supplier they always recommend Yj i dont find Yj a good leak detector but thats just my opinion whats ur thoughts guys?
