Selecting Outdoor Condenser Units!
Is it me or when going to a customers home and they are requesting a/c and they already have a furnace I always try to match the coil & outdoor unit with the same manufacturers that made the furnace?
Also if you come across a furnace with no A/C whats the average age of a furnace that you would reconmend to the customer to repalce it to go with their new condenser unit?
Thanks

Around here furnaces last a LONG time compared to A/C units, because the AC runs so many more hours per year.. Condensers typically last 15yrs, Furnaces 30yrs. If their old furnace is old enough that it has a pilot light it's time for it to go.

the air conditioner could care less about the furnace...and the furnace cares not what a/c is installed...matched is nice.... but does not happen all the time

Actually the furnace as I'm sure we all know is important in respect to air flow!

I always check to make sure that the blower wheel is very clean before i change out the a/c only. also, when the coil is off and if you happen to pull the blower wheel for cleaning its a great time to check the heat exchanger for cracks.
