    DISCHARGE FILTER

why would you use one ? Was working on a old Trane air handler yesterday. Originally water cooled but converted to remote air cooled. 2 five ton CNR-5 copeland compressors. Discharge lines go to shell type filters. Tops of filters have a 1/4" line back to compressor suction process tubes. Is it some kind of oil return ?

Could you elaborate on that a little ? I'm sure the rack guys see them often.

It is an oil seperator. Look up the brand and it will explain the operation. there is usually a float inside that returns oil through the tube to the compressor when level rises.
