There is nothing wrong with converting an orifice manifold to a TXV as long as the expansion valve was sized properly.

Even Trane has a kit to convert their Voyager roof tops from an orifice manifold to an expansion valve..

As long as it works, I don't see an issue with it..

that job actually looks very good. does it work? it looks like the circuit above it has problems. maybe all those orifices are clogged.

I think it's working. I was walking across Mall and another tech pointed this unit out to me.

The inverted trap is from the factory I think.

This belongs on the other wall

    edit.....

Wait a minute. is that a distributor or is it a bunch or 1/4" tubes brazed into a reducer? and all the tubes are different lengths.

Maybe this is on the right wall after all

Yes, that a bunch of tubes brazed in to a reducer.

Maybe all the distributor tubes are the same length, but they pushed all the extra into the coil tubes.

Looks like the top half needs the conversion too!

Its an improvement if you ask me. I dont see how ity cost effective though.

That replacement manifold with the crimped in metering devices isnt that expensive. Looks like the top is freezing up.

Makes me wonder if the TXV was their answer for poor airflow.

We have done that to several older carriers like that cuz the offices like to stop up all the time and they work flawlessly but we always have a distributor made up
