Im having a a new furnace installed(90%) and a 13 seer 2ton air conditioner installed right now as well as having some construction work done, porch, siding windows, etc etc. The furnace and air people are going to vent the furnace thru PVC straight up to the roof. The construction guys told me it should be vented out the side of the house because of moisture. I have cathedral ceilings and no attic. There is a very small area where *I* think a side wall vent could be installed, but its a rather small area to be working in(The area is a crawl space between two walls, approximately 2 feet wide at the most.

Some insight on this would be great.

Have them use a concentric kit(converts two pipes to one pipe) when venting through the roof or side wall. Looks alot nicer. They may have to insulate the exhaust if its in an unconditioned space.

Vertical through the roof termination is preferred.

This is true for me also. One time I had a bird somehow go down a vertical exhaust but that is the only time I have had any problems. If you vent out the side in my area you had better remember to cover them in the summer months or they will be packed with wasp nests.

I always suggest concentric kit terminations. Better looking and a slightly pre-heated combustion air.

I've had vents and combustion air piping going through roofs that have had bee/hornet/wasp nests in them. These pests will nest anywhere.
