On this thermostat,1F95-1277, I can set for heat, cool, off, auto. When I select auto it flashes. It does not flash on other settings. Is this normal operation for auto setting. The owners manual does not mention this.

Yes, mine does that. I think it only flashes when it's first switched to auto, but has not yet heated. After it cycles the first time in heat or cool it will switch to showing "auto" and ""heat" or "cool". This time of year in most parts of the country, it's not uncommon to heat in the morning and use a little AC in the afternoon if you have less than a 4-5F difference between modes. Espeically in a smalelr hosue wiht less mass or less insulation.
