    Question

What (if any) is the best way to check a contactor, other than visual. I read one time that some techs test resistance across the contacts, anyone do this? I know about obvious signs, like chattering, and buzzing. Thanks.

Checking resistance sounds ok, not that I know HVAC, but replacing suspect parts may be better use of your time.

it takes a Wheatstone bridge -- very l o w resistance! forget it.
harvest rainwater, make SHADE,R75/50/30= roof/wall/floor, use HVAC mastic, caulk all wall seams!

While energized, a voltage test across same leg terminals.
