Don't do geothermal, can't find parts for old units

I'm in the process of getting quotes to install geo. I had one guy tell me today that he is finding that he's unable to get parts, compressor, etc, for geo heat pumps, some only 6 years old. Different refrigerant, etc. He said the geo units are obsolete within 5 years. Is there any truth to this at all? He said he was talking across the board, all manufacturers, but it sounded like the main brands he's serviced are Trane and York, does york even make geo units?

I asked him, do you really think a company like Waterfurnace or Climatemaster, really aren't going to have parts stocked 10 years from now? I just find it hard to believe that 10 years from now finding parts will be an issue. He kept mentioning refrigerant.

Should I be concerned at all about finding parts 10 years from now, if I decide to go series 5 Waterfurnace, is that even a concern?

I have never had a problem getting parts for any of the Geo systems we've installed. This winter we got a compressor and TXV for a 10 yr old Trane system with no delay. So I don't know what his problem is.

As far as the refrigerant issue goes; you're going to have the same issue Geo, air source, or straight A/C so I don't know what his issue is there.

It almost sounds to me like someone looking for an excuss.

We work on 20 year old waterfurnace stuff all the time and no issues. That guy is either lazy or not experienced.

We're still servicing water source heatpumps that are so old Trane doesn't have any data on the serial number. It may be an original from the 1950's. We call it "the big green monster". It's a 10 ton 2 circuit unit that mostly rusted out at the base.

Air cooled condenser, water cooled, not really a huge difference there, just the coil it uses.
